Basic Muffin Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups (250 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup (240 ml) milk
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil or melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Optional Mix-ins:
- 1 cup fresh berries (blueberries, raspberries, etc.)
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease the muffin cups.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat the egg and then mix in the milk, vegetable oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract if using.
- Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. The batter will be lumpy; do not overmix.
- Add Optional Mix-ins: Gently fold in any mix-ins like berries, chocolate chips, or nuts if you choose to include them.
- Fill Muffin Cups: Spoon batter into the prepared muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full.
- Bake: Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
- Cool: Allow muffins to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
